Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Happy St.Patrick’s Day! I hope you had a nice day. We stayed on the island, went for a walk, had scones with cream and jam… For a change it didn’t rain!Hooray!  That means no rainbow in the sky but there was one in my house!

I have finished the third Rainbow Wonky Squares Quilt. Oh, how I love it! It is ready to be posted to America. I think it will look so pretty as a wall hanging for a nursery, and I hope both mummy and baby will like it as much as I do!

There is some exciting things going on too. I am working on my logo, labels, business cards, banners, etc… it takes so long! So now at last you get to see a small sample of it and know who are the main characters of El Petit Taller. My little ants!!! You see, the first name I thought for my blog was La Formigueta (the little ant), because I loved making those quilled ants and that’s how I saw myself… working like a laborious ant in my sewing room… but alas, that name was taken! So my sewing room got the name instead, The Little Workshop it is. Some English speakers don’t get it (and why should they), I know, and they thing Taller is in English (like the opposite of shorter) and that together with Petit… well, it doesn’t make much sense… does it? So now you know, taller is pronounced “tayeh”, and it’s the word for workshop!

photoSo there you go, here’s the story of my blog/shop’s name, my ants and my Rainbow Quilt!

Doing maths…

I am flying solo for the next two weeks, since Mr. F.  is touring the States (again!). That means I am a “stay at home mum” and I’ll be trying to squeeze as much stitching as I can during naps, night time sleeps, and Toy Story show times (it is the Toy Story era at home at the moment).

Last night, after tidying up the millions and gazillions of toys that were spread in the living room floor, I sat down and saw Hana’s sketch pad right in front of me. I took it and started to think of how could I use that charm pack that I cut many moons ago to do something which I can’t remember… I did draw something nice, but let’s say that my maths after 10pm are not really accurate.

This morning I tried the calculations again and well, it doesn’t work with the 2 1/2″ x5″ rectangles… but I think I’ll make something nice inspired on the sketch I made last night. Having said this, I’ll better hurry up to have those rows numbered (I don’t think I’ll start sewing it), before the post comes with my order from Fluffy Sheep Quilting! I have the white triangles  cut for another rainbow wonky square quilt that a lady from America has ordered. I’m pretty sure she’s a first time mum and, oh boy, her joy and excitement is contageous! I love making these wonky squares and it makes me so happy that somebody across the sea wants it to decorate their baby’s nursery.

Last week I finished another custom quilt for a little girl called Ciara. I like the fabric choice that her aunt made and I think the pattern works well with it too. It’s a pretty simple pattern I made that works well with 4 coordinating prints, that’s why I decided to offer as a custom order at the shop.

This quilt measures 38″x 51″ and I used 4 prints from the line Enchant by Riley Blake and 3 Kona solids (white, ash and posy). I free motion quilted it with that stippled effect that I seem to not being able to leave alone (I wish I could try something different but I’m too scared!!!)

And there is another thing I’m thinking of… again sketching it and trying to do my best at maths! Hopefully I’ll be giving a tutorial on how to make a cute toiletry bag. This time I’ll try to make it into a pdf. I’d like to have a couple of pattern testers… would anyone be interested? Thank you in advance 🙂 That’s all for now, I better go and pick up my darling princess from school! Here’s how she looks like when she telling me a thousand stories… and Conor is faster than a rocket…

The Modern Irish Bee

Well, well… it looks like spring is showing up slowly! I love the light in my sewing room where I spent almost the entire weekend. Who knows when I’ll be able to enter again…

Before the end of last year, I joined the Modern Irish Bee and I’m loving it. I missed the first round, and I thought I had missed this round too but fortunately they were still looking for one more spot and there you go, jumped in!

It’s so nice to imagine how the different blocks will make up the quilt. The January block was organised by Ruth. It was tricky to match all those 1″ squares, but it was a challenge I enjoyed. In fact, there will be a few of those in my June block (yes, I already came up with the design for my block!).

Cindy was the February Queen Bee and she had us all busy with spools. I had a lot of work to do in February and although I had the fabric chosen and cut, I didn’t start making them until the end… I finished them this weekend and I am very happy how they came out. This quilt will be amazing!

And well… I was on a sewing spree yesterday, all the scraps were out, the iron on, the sewing machine ready… and I just happened to have one of the low volume prints that Sarah, the March Queen Bee, was suggesting for her block, plus I was itching to try this tutorial. I couldn’t have been able to go to bed without having it done! I really really liked this one and I think I will be making a quilt like this. Maybe a wall hanging for my sewing room…

I’d like to show you a bit of the design I made for my quilt… but I think it will be better to keep it until June. Only 3 more months… that’s nothing!

Abans d’acabar l’any, em vaig apuntar al Modern Irish Bee.
